Garage Sale :: an Emotional Cleanse

This past weekend my son and I held a garage sale. It was one of those things I've been procrastinating hard core over because truly the prep is just out of control. I seriously had a mini episode of hoarders happening in that area and finally decided it was time to face it. The stacks and piles were all things brought over to my new house ahem-last year from my old home after the Big D, by my mother no less. Luckily I was out of town at the time my things were requested to be removed and did not have to face the boxes and boxes of old memories. Like the one labeled "trash" on every side (including the lids) that so kindly held all of our family photos and the kids newborn baby bags I made for them upon returning home from the hospital. The time had come for me to face this beast and honestly I had become embarrassed to open my garage in fear that a neighbor might  get a sneak peek at the extensive amount of emotional baggage.

The prepping began a few weeks ago and by 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning my son and I were ready for the early birds. We had a few hot ticket items and then of course tons of clothes. I always like selling my clothes. Let's be real. I will buy something, wear it once and then either never be able to fit in it again or it simply goes out of style. I loved how excited this pack of little mamacita's were getting over my barely worn if worn at all stack of clothes. One turned and looked at me and said "it's too bad, you're too small - we need size 14". Senorita say what?! NO-it is not too bad! Big Mama has worked hard (well kind of) not to be a size 14 and just so you know...I have some reserve in my closest just in case a consistent stint of graham crackers with frosting starts occurring late night.

Let's not forget to mention the little grandpa who made off with a stack of barely worn golf polos...oh, for maybe $5. "Get your Ashworth's here! Fiddy cent!" I did retrieve my "barely" worn wedding dress from the pile about half way through. I was seriously going to sell it for like $5 just so I didn't have to look at it any longer, however I had moment of clarity/sadness and took it down. I could get at least $20 for it on Craigs. In the end it was a great success and I feel lighter than ever! Who needs yoga when you can have a garage sale?!

Note to self:
You should not be sore for 3+ days for just merely having a garage sale. Move your ass!

86 Big Mama's Spicy Advice:
Baggage only weighs you down. Pack light and you'll have a much more enjoyable experience overall.

86 Big Mama for Change:
I would like to propose we start referring to garage sales (boring) as the One Dolla Holla. I volunteer to make the signs.
